For career day, students got to experience what it's like working at the job they want for their career. We shadowed someone in the field that we want.
I went to a bird sanctuary and shadowed a person who took care of birds. They feed the birds, trim their nails and beaks, and make sure they stay clean. What really surprised me is how connected the volunteers were with the birds. Because the volunteers who go their often bonded with the birds, their relationship with them was that they were surprisingly really close. For example I saw a lady who worked there singing with one of the birds.

Describe what you think a typical work day is like at this site.
What I think is a typical work day is like at this site is taking care of birds, feeding them, cleaning them. But they also do a bunch of paper work because sometimes new birds come in and some leave. They have to clean cages, trim nails and beaks.
What do you think the business's general work policies are (tardiness, absence, etc.)?
I guess for tardiness if they’re late for work they get marked down for it. If their absent they get marked down and probably dont get paid.
Describe what you think the dress code will be like at this site.
I think dress code will be wearing long sleeve shirts or jackets because when you hold the birds you wouldn’t want them scratching your arms with their claws. You’d probably wear comfortable pants and shoes since you’ll be walking around a little watching them.
In what ways do you expect your high school classes and the skills you have learned to apply to this profession?
Class
Skill

Knowing how they fly so when there’s a problem with their flying you know what the problem is.
Multimedia

When you need to make a website for the organization.
Please write a reflection which describes what you are expecting for Career Day. What kind of tasks or activities do you expect to see people doing? In other words, what do you expect the professional world to be like? (minimum 2 paragraphs, 5-8 sentences each)
For career day I expect people to be feeding the birds and cleaning them. The employees will probably be showing people around and telling them about each of the birds. They’ll just watch the birds in general and keeping an eye on them. The employees will probably do paperwork. And they also take care of the birds and provide their food like cut up the fruits and vegetables.
What I expect the professional world to be like is going to work on time and finishing all the tasks you need to get done. Making and taking phone calls. You probably have to do the same thing everyday. The same activities and tasks. But I think if you have a job that you really love you’ll be okay.
